The European Overseas Empires - Overview
The European Overseas Empires - Overview Europe is a relatively small continent, especially compared to Asia or Africa, but during the last five hundred years, European countries have controlled a huge part of the world, including almost all of Africa and the Americas. The nature of this control varied, from the benign to the genocidal, and the reasons also differed, from country to country, from era to era, from simple greed to ideologies of racial and moral superiority such as The White Mans Burden. They are almost gone now, swept away in a political and moral awakening over the last century, but the after-effects spark a different news story almost every week. A Desire to Find New Trade Routes Inspired Exploration There are two approaches to the study of the European Empires. The first is straightforward history: what happened, who did it, why they did it, and what effect this had, a narrative and analysis of politics, economics, culture, and society. The overseas empires began to form in the fifteenth century. Developments in shipbuilding and navigation, which allowed sailors to travel across the open seas with much greater success, coupled with advances in maths, astronomy, cartography, and printing, all of which allowed better knowledge to be more widely spread, gave Europe the potential to extend over the world. Pressure on land from the encroaching Ottoman Empire and a desire to find new trade routes through to the well-known Asian markets- the old routes being dominated by Ottomans and Venetians- gave Europe the push- that and the human desire to explore. Some sailors tried going around the bottom of Africa and up past India, others tried going across the Atlantic. Indeed, the vast majority of sailors who made western voyages of discovery were actually after alternative routes to Asia- the new American continent in between was something of a surprise. Colonialism and Imperialism If the first approach is the sort you will encounter mainly in history textbooks, the second is something youll encounter on the television and in the newspapers: the study of colonialism, imperialism, and the debate over the effects of empire. As with most isms, there is still an argument over exactly what we mean by the terms. Do we mean them to describe what the European nations did? Do we mean them to describe a political idea, which we will compare to Europes actions? Are we using them as retroactive terms, or did people at the time recognize them and act accordingly? This is just scratching the surface of the debate over imperialism, a term thrown around regularly by modern political blogs and commentators. Running alongside this is the judgmental analysis of the European Empires. The last decade has seen the established view- that the Empires were undemocratic, racist and thus bad- challenged by a new group of analysts who argue that the Empires actually did a lot of good. The democratic success of America, albeit achieved without much help from England, is frequently mentioned, as are the ethnic conflicts in African nations created by Europeans drawing straight lines on maps. Three Phases of Expansion There are three general phases in the history of Europes colonial expansion, all including wars of ownership between the Europeans and indigenous people, as well as between the Europeans themselves. The first age, which began in the fifteenth century and carried on into the nineteenth, is characterized by the conquest, settlement, and loss of America, the south of which was almost entirely divided between Spain and Portugal, and the north of which was dominated by France and England. However, England won wars against the French and Dutch before losing to their old colonists, who formed the United States; England retained only Canada. In the south, similar conflicts occurred, with the European nations being almost thrown out by the 1820s. During the sameà period,à European nations also gained influence in Africa, India, Asia, and Australasia (Englandà colonizedà the whole of Australia), especially the many islands and landmasses along the trading routes. This influence only increased during the nineteenth and early twentieth century, whenà Britain, in particular, conquered India. However, this second phase isà characterized by the New Imperialism, a renewed interest and desire for overseas land felt by many European nations which prompted The Scramble for Africa, a race by many European countries to carve up the entirety of Africa between themselves. By 1914, only Liberia andà Abysinniaà remained independent. In 1914, the First World War began, a conflict partly motivated by imperial ambition. The consequent changesà inà Europe and the world eroded many beliefs in Imperialism, a trend enhanced by the Second World War. After 1914, the history of the European Empires- a third phase- is one of gradualà decolonizationà and independence, with the vast majority of empires ceasing to exist. Given that European colonialism/imperialism affected the whole world, it is common to discuss some of the other rapidly expanding nations of the period as a comparison, inà particular, the United States and their ideology of manifest destiny. Two older empires are sometimes considered: the Asian part of Russia and the Ottoman Empire. The Early Imperial Nations England, France, Portugal, Spain, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The Later Imperial Nations England, France, Portugal, Spain, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Analysis of Promotional Program Situation - Essay Example This product is hopefully going to sail through the market given its peculiarity, simplicity and integrative capabilities. There are a number of competing products to the Tablet360. However, the main competition is from the Nokia and Samsung who have by far established a number of related products. Their products are well positioned across the world market. They have a broad market share, towering through a number of countries. Their marketing strategies are vibrant and they have their presence on all the local and international media, in addition to the internet. They are also well promoted through sponsorship of great football clubs that play in the English Premier League. At the moment, there are so many phones and related tablets from these companies with enhanced features such as the touch screen, radio, mobile banking options, TV and the internet among others. As such, the tablet is estimated to command a market share of about 75% percent in the electronic market if effective advertisement is carried out. Most of the competitors are marketing their products through the mass media and the internet. (Strauss). In addition they also use the mobile phone short messaging services to spread the awareness of their products. (Christensen and LÃ ¦greid). In order to counter this, a more personalized marketing strategy for Tablet360 will have to be adopted. For example, after closing a sale with a buyer of the tablet, he might be given an opportunity to seek for a customer of another tablet with a guaranteed commission. (Strauss). In case the new customer comes, then the same strategy can

Water Use Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Water Use - Essay Example In this paper, the physical planning arrangements for traditional use of water in the world will be discussed so that new ideas can emerge in order to show improvement. Water generally gets to our homes in one of two ways. Either it is delivered by a city/county water department (or maybe from a private company), or people supply their own water, normally from a well. Water delivered to homes is called "public supplied" and water that people supply themselves is called "self supplied." People who supply their own water almost always use ground. The vast majority of America's population gets their water delivered from a public-supply system. This makes sense, as America's population now largely live in urban centers" (Domestic water use). Therefore, by having physical planning arrangements for water usage could mean economic development will help rural areas to be stronger, which contributes to their survival. With physical planning for use of water, it is very important to have cluste ring in the early stages of development because it helps with survival strategies. From there, this cannot happen until social capital is involved because it will drawn in clustered enterprises. For 2000, withdrawals were an estimated 3,720 Mgal/d or 4,170 thousand acre-feet per year. Self-supplied domestic withdrawals were about 1 percent of total freshwater withdrawals and about 2 percent of total freshwater withdrawals for all categories excluding thermoelectric power.... In order to overcome the issues, we need to consider group thinking and conformity so that everyone can work together. Working on a team can be very rewarding and exciting, but also frustrating if some of the team member are not committed to the team. Building a high performance team requires time, collaboration and most importantly communication. According to Katzenbach and Smith (2004), a team is described as a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable. Group thinking and conformity focuses on the interpersonal transaction between managers and employee. Leaders are seen as engaging in behaviors that maintain a quality interaction between themselves and followers. The company is lacking group thinking and conformity because no one is willing to work together. In order to be an effective company, they have to conform as one so that productivity can be increased to make high p rofits. This effective form of communication and teamwork allowed people in the park with no problems because the team was organized and knew the proper procedure. A successful team also requires active listening, empathy, and being truly committed. With the approach of marketing rural areas, where consumers have the time to pay attention to details and want a small cozy shop, marketers can benefit from it due to the fact it will be in more customers because it adds to convenience, which is what everybody wants. From that, they will make the past relationships with customers stronger since they will feel like they can rely on the company for future development. This will cause the industry to make more long term profits, which is a great benefit. 3. Conclusion

After having taken all the important factors into consideration, there are five-price fixing approaches seem appropriate. 1.Cost Based pricing One of the centred objectives of this project being to become the market leader in functional drinks, Gloria Jeansââ¬â¢ is willing to stay among the top competitors if not becoming the greater by achieving a certain target profit this could be obtained by establish a price that will largely cover variable and fixed costs while bringing tremendous profits 2.Value Added Pricing Competitors and potential substitutes prices can also be part of the strategy. Having a higher price could make customers aware of the additional benefits and the higher quality of coffee. 3.Value based pricing The company sets its target price based on customer perceptions of the product value. According to the report of Su, Chiou and Chang (2006), the case study of Starbucks coffee displayed that Western culture adoration can influence the coffee consumption of Taiwan. Kim (2002),point at consumer behavior have significant influenced by theà product-of-origin and brand image. Torchwood, Egoism, and Utilitarianism Essays -- Literary Analysis
Torchwoodââ¬â¢s third season ââ¬Å"Children of Earth,â⬠contains many momentous events which question human rationality, having good sagacity, judgment, and equanimity. Throughout these events two ethical philosophies unravel. The first philosophy, egoism, actions with solely oneââ¬â¢s interests in mind, plays a major role in the season. Ethical egoists believe that one should look out for no one else but themselves, and a theory of psychological egoism states that whatever the reasoning is behind an action, the action is always an individualââ¬â¢s self-interest. The inconceivable enthralling events in the season are due to the 456ââ¬â¢s yearning for ten percent of the children population. However, their request is not based upon a life-supporting necessity, but merely an egotistical longing for a pleasurable ââ¬Å"highâ⬠the children supply them with. The second philosophy, utilitarianism, is based on Jeremy Benthamââ¬â¢s principle of utility, actions whi ch amplify happiness and diminish pain for the majority of people, play an essential role. To restrain the heinous act from occurring, Jack sacrifices his own grandson, Steven, to spare the lives of the other children on Earth. The 456 are at fault for the outlandish children-related incidences around the world. The children stop in mid-action and recite exact words at the same time for five consecutive days. These events are linked to a previous abduction by the 456 in 1965. The only two people conscious of the previous abduction are immortal Captain Jack, who was there during the abduction, and the Home Office Permanent Secretary John Frobisher. For most of the first episodes, Torchwood members, Jack, Ianto, and Gwen, know nothing of the situation, but are able to communicate with an insider, Lois Habiba, ... ...uction to Ethics, 6th Edition. Hotel Reservation System Essay
I ââ¬â Introduction A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in time past, consisting only of a room with a bed, a cup board, a small table and washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities, including en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control. The cost and quality of hotels are usually indicative of the range and type of service available. Due to the enormous increase in Tourism worldwide during the last decades of the 20th century, standards, specially those of the smaller establishment, have improved considerably. Hotels are independently assessed in traditional systems and these rely heavily on the facilities provided. Today, most of the Hotels provide goods and services using computer system. It helps to perform task in an easy way with less time consumed. Some companies are become fully automated while others strive for the similar setting. Computer programmers develop things like computer system that the rest of us could use. The computer programmers tell the users what to do. They make programs that users can easily used or understand. The advent of new technology gave rise to easy and hassle free interaction between and among humans. Whether it is business, science or whatever task a person takes on the quality and speed of carrying it out are enhanced with automation at the core of this efficient. Today, many systems have used an automation process like using computer system, due to the efficient and accuracy. Hotel Reservation System is a transaction processing system. In this system there are more advantages rather than a manual Hotel Reservation. II Background of the Study The proponents wants to know the reasons of hotel in using manual reservation. The proponents conduct a study towards the topic because they notice some of the hotel still use manual reservation. The study will emphasized the effects of using manual reservation and how a computerized reservation will be substituted. Therefore, the proponents purported to find out how to increase the number of customers using computerized reservation. Interaction and individual stimulation have always been linked to the technological availability of the time and place. With the transition to an information based society, computes and transactions have evolved from manual transaction. One of the solutions or alternatives to the problems that a hotel is facing, a system was being developed which can edit, delete, filter, monitor , store and secured the records of the customers. Hotel Reservation System is a transaction processing system that solves the problem encountered during the manual Hotel Reservation. The computerized Hotel reservation system aims to simplify the manual Hotel Reservation fastest and accurate. Database is shared thru Local Area Network (LAN). The proponents make use of some tools and techniques to build the project. The system uses Graphical User Interface (GUI) to help the user give instruction to the computer. The system once implemented it will solve the most common problems that the Hotel Reservation encounter. Statement of the Problem Based on the research conducted, the proponents found out the problem of this study are: How will this system help the management and the staff to have an accurate service at the same time to monitor the records of the customers? General Problem: The main problem of this study is the inaccurate reservation of the customer. Specific Problem: 1. Low in security 2. Time monitoring 3. Less data integrity 4. Difficulty in searching and retrieving files 5. Possible loss of records and retrieving files 6. Difficulty on finding the availability of rooms Objective of the study This study intends to develop a Hotel Reservation System. General Objectives This study aims to solve the problems encountered and to change the manual reservation. Specific Objectives 1. To increase the security between the management and staff. 2. To lessen the time consume. 3. To highly integrated data. 4. To spend less time in searching and retrieving files. 5. To create a back up of files in every successful transaction. 6. To become make easier to find the availability of rooms. Scope and Delimitation This study is conducted to know the reason behind the proponents on how will their purposed systems will help the Hotel Management. Hotel Reservation System is fully scalable and designed extensive flexibility and varied choices. Typical hotel reservation and e-commerce hotel system software reservation solutions currently in place and available today are technically designed to achieve only one objective function, which is connect the buyer to seller. Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature and Studies This chapter contains related literature and study needed by the proponents. The following had been reviewed to identify the scope and importance of the chosen research topic. Local Literature In accordance to an article entitled Foreign Literature ââ¬Å"ââ¬Å"A well organized reservation system allows hotels to ensure a steady flow of guests into their properties Furthermore, ââ¬Å"Profitable business ventures rely on effective marketing, which includes reviewing people who require hotel products and services, determining their specific needs, developing products and services that meet those needs, and making a profit on the sale of those products and services(James Bardi, 2010, Alvinos Voskos p. 136).

Film Review of Apocalypto
1. Make a film review of the film focusing on the major aspects of Maya culture: a) Major characters in the film: * Jaguar Paw- son of Flint Sky * Flint Sky- leader of the village * Seven- wife of Jaguar Paw * Turtles Run- little son of Jaguar Paw * Zero Wolf- leader of the Mayan tribe who ravaged the village of Jaguar Paw * Middle Eye- son of Zero Wolf, he is almost killed by Jaguar Paw b) Aspects of Maya culture -Mayans practice human sacrifice for their gods to hear their prayers.Mayans capture other royalties from other tribes for them to sacrifice. The high priests cut the breasts of the captives to get the beating heart before beheading them. They offer the beating heart to their gods. The Mayans also practice slavery. c) Factors that brought the downfall of Mayan civilization. -The first possibility that brought the downfall of the civilization is drought, due to lack of water; they cannot plant crops including their main crop, the maize. The second possibility is that rulers f elt that their power is failing so they offer more and more human sacrifices to the point that they get captives from their own tribe. 2. Try to explain the following: a) The opening quote at the start of the film: ââ¬Å"A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from withinâ⬠ââ¬âW. Durant -For me, the quote states that a great civilization or tribe can only be conquered if people from within will destroy it.People that are settling in that certain tribe will always be the one who can destroy a prosperous tribe because they know what is the strength and the weakness of their place. b) The message relayed/conveyed by the arrival of Spanish ships in the end of the film. -I think Spanish conquistadors will use the ââ¬Å"spread of Christianityâ⬠because they carry a cross. They will befriend the Mayans and they will let them be treated by them as their friends.

How To Calculate the Margin of Error
How To Calculate the Margin of Error Many times political polls and other applications of statistics state their results with a margin of error. It is not uncommon to see that an opinion poll states that there is support for an issue or candidate at a certain percentage of respondents, plus and minus a certain percentage. It is this plus and minus term that is the margin of error. But how is the margin of error calculated? For a simple random sample of a sufficiently large population, the margin or error is really just a restatement of the size of the sample and the level of confidence being used. The Formula for the Margin of Error In what follows we will utilize the formula for the margin of error. We will plan for the worst case possible, in which we have no idea what the true level of support is the issues in our poll. If we did have some idea about this number, possibly through previous polling data, we would end up with a smaller margin of error. The formula we will use is: E zà ±/2/(2âËÅ¡ n) The Level of Confidence The first piece of information we need to calculate the margin of error is to determine what level of confidence we desire. This number can be any percentage less than 100%, but the most common levels of confidence are 90%, 95%, and 99%. Of these three the 95% level is used most frequently. If we subtract the level of confidence from one, then we will obtain the value of alpha, written as à ±, needed for the formula. The Critical Value The next step in calculating the margin or error is to find the appropriate critical value. This is indicated by the term zà ±/2 in the above formula. Since we have assumed a simple random sample of a large population, we can use the standard normal distribution of z-scores. Suppose that we are working with a 95% level of confidence. We want to look up the z-score z*for which the area between -z* and z* is 0.95. From the table, we see that this critical value is 1.96. We could have also found the critical value in the following way. If we think in terms of à ±/2, since à ± 1 - 0.95 0.05, we see that à ±/2 0.025. We now search the table to find the z-score with an area of 0.025 to its right. We would end up with the same critical value of 1.96. Other levels of confidence will give us different critical values. The greater the level of confidence, the higher the critical value will be. The critical value for a 90% level of confidence, with a corresponding à ± value of 0.10, is 1.64. The critical value for a 99% level of confidence, with a corresponding à ± value of 0.01, is 2.54. Sample Size The only other number that we need to use the formula to calculate the margin of error is the sample size, denoted by n in the formula. We then take the square root of this number. Due to the location of this number in the above formula, the larger the sample size that we use, the smaller the margin of error will be. Large samples are therefore preferable to smaller ones. However, since statistical sampling requires resources of time and money, there are constraints to how much we can increase the sample size. The presence of the square root in the formula means that quadrupling the sample size will only half the margin of error. A Few Examples To make sense of the formula, letââ¬â¢s look at a couple of examples. What is the margin of error for a simple random sample of 900 people at a 95% ââ¬â¹level of confidence?By use of the table we have a critical value of 1.96, and so the margin of error is 1.96/(2 âËÅ¡ 900 0.03267, or about 3.3%.What is the margin of error for a simple random sample of 1600 people at a 95% level of confidence? At the same level of confidence as the first example, increasing the sample size to 1600 gives us a margin of error of 0.0245 or about 2.5%.

Feeling frustrated, you resort to procrastinating and get nothing done! This is normal, writing a book is hard work.In fact, coming up with a book idea in general can be very tricky. But in order to start writing your book, you must develop a writing process.Hereââ¬â¢s are some effective ways to write a book worth self-publishing: Buy a calendar. The best way to have your book complete is to have a calendar that schedules your goals per day/week.Create an outline. An outline is like a map of your book that provides direction to your story. It keeps you on track and ensures that your ideas are organized.Develop a writing habit. Condition yourself to write at the same time every day. With this practice, it will soon become a habit that will make writing a book automatic.Get an accountability partner. You can hold each other accountable to write and finish your by your draft done date.Build your writing environment. Yes, this can be a blanket for if you choose to use build literally or you can simply find an area where your head is clear, there are no distractions, and where you can write in peace. To learn more tips on how to write faster, hereââ¬â¢s a tutorial video of the simple process I use to write over 1500 words per hour: Action Plan: Create a resistance plan! Figure out which methods best filter out the negative noise to get you into the writing process.#3 Get Feedback on Your Book Before PublishingWhen writing your book, itââ¬â¢s important to get as much feedback as early in the process as possible. Its essential to get this feedback in order to improve your writing. Everything from creative writing to factual, non-fiction works needs feedback in order to produce a polished publication. As writers, itââ¬â¢s all too easy to retreat into your cave for a long period of time, spend countless hours writing what you think is the perfect first draft, only to find that a) your draft doesnââ¬â¢t make sense to anyone else or b) no one else is as interested in the topic as you originally thought.Writing tips can come from anywhere and the best usually come from those reading your book for the first time. Not only can a fresh set of eyes on your book help you catch typos and grammatical errors, but a new perspective can give you ideas for tightening up your story and making the theme more clear, likeintheexamplebelow.Giving your book to one (or more) ââ¬Å"beta readersâ⬠before giving itto an editor and self-publishing can also cut down on the time and cost of paying a professional editor. You can also use a beneficial piece of writing software like Grammarly or the Hemingway Editor so you can learn as you write!Action Plan: Reach out to a few friends who could provide good (preferably unbiased) feedback, and ask them if theyll be willing to read a chapter or two (or the whole book!) as you finish writing#4 Choose a Book TitleContrary to popular belief, you should never decide on a book title until after you are done writing your first draft. This is because choosing a book title first often results in you ââ¬Å"writing yourself into a cornerâ⬠because youââ¬â¢re trying so hard to align your story to the title of the book instead of writing what needs to be written.Donââ¬â¢t make this more complicated than it needs to be. The key to choosing a perfect title is: the simpler the title, the better. As youââ¬â¢re brainstorming ideas, always remember to keep it simple.Your title should also be cle ar on what your readers will receive by reading your book. This is because experts state that a clear promise or a guarantee of results will further intrigue your readers. Here are some questions to consider when creating your memorable book title:Is your title going to teach a high demand skill? Can your title impact someoneââ¬â¢s life? Can your book solve a very difficult problem? Is it short enough to read in a thumbnail image on Amazon?Does it elicit an emotional response?Action Plan: Once youââ¬â¢ve narrowed down your book titles, send out an email to your friends and family or put a poll up to your audience asking what title theyââ¬â¢d prefer. You could also ask a community of other authorswhat they think.#5 Hire a Great Book EditorHiring a great book editor can mean the difference between becoming a bestselling author, or self-publishing a mediocre book. Therefore, itââ¬â¢s important to take as much time as necessary during this stage of the process. To find an editor for your book, begin with your personal network.Do you personally know any qualified editors? Start there. If you donââ¬â¢t, then do you know someone who knows an editor? If you donââ¬â¢t have any luck finding an editor within your personal network, donââ¬â¢t worry!Depending on your budget, you can either hire a professional book editoror hire a more budget-friendly editor from Upwork. But be careful and always check references and portfolios of work.As a Self-Publishing School student, we will also provide you with a Rolodex of approved and vetted book editors who all do a great job, asyoucanseeintheexamplebelow. No matter how you find your editor, make sure youââ¬â¢re a good fit before committing to the full book by paying them a small sum ($25 or so) to edit a few pages or a chapter of your book.Make sure the editor is interested in the subject matter, that they can get your whole book edited in 3.5 weeks or less including back-and-forth revisions, and that their edits are both accurate and make sense to you.If you donââ¬â¢t feel youââ¬â¢re a good fit following a sample edit, then let that $25 go and find an editor whoââ¬â¢s going to work out rather than sinking more money into a relationship that might be a mistake.Whatever you do, donââ¬â¢t give upduring the editorial process! If one editor isnââ¬â¢t working out for you or meeting your needs, find another.Action Plan: Find a friend or professional editor who can make sure your book is error-free, and start working with them sooner rather than later!#6 Design a Book Cover that ConvertsWhen it comes to self-publishing, a high-quality book cover is one of the most important elements that will get your book to convert into sales! The reason is that your book cover design is what readers see first and will immediately determine whether they want to read your book or not.Dont judge a book by its cover simply doesnt apply toactual book covers, as much as we wish it did.The hard truth is thateveryone judges a book by its cover whether they realize it or not.So you must make sure that it is created professionally and that it will stand apart from the rest of the books in your genre or category. What makes a good book cover?Simplistic styling. Too much going on will make readers unable to figure out what your book is about. Keep the cover minimalistic and it will convert more readers.Professionally designed. Book cover designers know how to create book covers that convert. They have industry knowledge and have studied what works and what doesnt.Clear title and subtitle. The title on your cover does matter. The easier it is to read, the better. This allows your readers to clearly see what your book is about as they scroll through Amazon or other book retailers.A design style that fits your intended audience. The most common question I get from newwriters is, ââ¬Å"How much should my book cost?â⬠To answer this,my general rule of thumb is to have your book priced is between $2.99 to $5.99. To be more specific, when beginning a launch, I would begin by pricing the book at $0.99 for the launch period. Then I would set the price to 2.99, and I would moderately increase the price by $1 every week and measure how well the new price performs. Once you see a sales dip, that will determine the exact price of your book that will guarantee book sales.Action Plan:Find the perfect price by using this strategy that will attract your readers and best drive long-term success.#11 Form a Launch TeamYour launch team is the group of people who are dedicated to helpingmake your book successful. They should be a passionate group of individuals who are eager to make your book launch successful. 4 Ps (pace, price, promotion, production) analysis Research Paper
4 Ps (pace, price, promotion, production) analysis - Research Paper Example Remember, a wrong approximation of just one aspect can cost the company dearly. Pricing: Different people have different purchasing powers; while some are low income earners, others have high income and their spending is also high. All these customers have one thing in common; they get to determine the price of a commodity being charged based on their perceived value. Therefore, any business should consider the purchasing powers of the people it sells to in the society. McDonaldââ¬â¢s China took the opportunity of using the tier pricing model as of 2007, to sell its products at a range of prices (adjusted to consumer index and income level among other costs in the partitioned areas) to its potential consumers, who had varying purchasing powers (Ko, 4). The price given for a commodity should also be considered; it is not always that lowering prices could generate profits. In fact, some consumers could feel as if the quality is being compromised. Again, high prices could push consumers to other alternative solutions. By 2008, McDonald China among other fast foo d companies had raised products costs to cover for the material costs harmoniously (Ko 4). The strategy was reasonable since it was done in union; hence no company was getting a competitive advantage over the other. Deciding on a product price should consider competitors price among other factors. Similarly, pricing should make room for customer discounts, especially while targeting a specific market. According to Ko, McDonald employed the plan by offering coupons to customers who shopped for their products online via Taobao. Com, as an encouragement to place food orders online (3). Product: The creation of the product is always under scrutiny from the consumerââ¬â¢s side; before being produced, the consumersââ¬â¢ preference and needs should be researched. Each age, group, or culture could want something different from the other, and it has to be considered. While others want their cultures to be incorporated, others want a totally different feel. At one point McDonaldââ¬â¢s fantastic rice burger was not appealing to mainland Chinese consumers, even if the rice wa s their staple food (Ko 3). Assuming they had ventured fully without the test, it could have cost them heavily. Unlike KFC, McDonald and Burger King had experienced low returns initially, because their products were made of beef instead of chicken, which was well accepted and suited to the Chinese (Ko 9). With time the wants or preferences change, and the company has to adjust with the changes. Today, some Chinese prefer alternative food instead of their locals, hence McDonald use the opportunity to create and offer the western brand , for example beef burgers alongside chicken burgers, hence giving the people a choice. The product name (such as McDonald), trademark, and the unique brand have to differentiate it from the competitors and market itself within the society. Another important factor is the packaging for consumer familiarity, quantity, and quality to be worth the price. Promotion: It covers all types of the marketing communication, from TVs, Radio, internet, shows, poster s, and the press to conduct advertisements. Most of this advertising comes with a cost for airing the information to the society, but there are other cheaper modes of marketing communication. One basic, though expensive strategy that McDonald Company did upon entry in China was to seek a partnership through joint ventures with local
